General
The essentials about using Nurse Tools.
What is Nurse Tools?
Nurse Tools is a free online revalidation system designed specifically for nurses. It helps you generate, store and maintain the documentation you need for NMC revalidation.
What does Nurse Tools do?
- Records your practice hours and CPD and totals them automatically.
- Stores your reflective accounts and practice-related feedback.
- Keeps all of your revalidation documentation together in one secure place.
- No more paper records that can be lost or damaged.
Is Nurse Tools really free?
Yes. Nurse Tools is completely free to use, forever, with no catches and no hidden charges. We never ask for a credit card or any payment details.
Do I need to register to use Nurse Tools?
You can read the public guidance without an account. A free account is needed to save your CPD, reflections, feedback and survey results.
Revalidation
Using the toolkit to organise your revalidation evidence.
Will my revalidation be accepted if I use Nurse Tools?
Yes. Nurse Tools is built around the NMC “How to revalidate” guidance and uses the same forms and templates the NMC recommends. Always check the latest NMC guidance before you submit.
What experience does Nurse Tools have with revalidation?
Nurse Tools’ parent company, GP Tools (UK) Ltd, has provided appraisal and revalidation toolkits for UK doctors since 2003.
How do the reflective discussion and confirmation work?
Near your revalidation date you nominate the NMC registrant you have your reflective discussion with, and your confirmer. They can review your evidence and sign the relevant NMC forms. You are never required to nominate them through Nurse Tools; it is simply there for your convenience.
Does Nurse Tools track my practice hours and CPD?
Yes. As you add your work and CPD activities, Nurse Tools keeps a running total of your practice hours and your CPD hours, including participatory CPD, against the NMC requirements.
Surveys and MSF
Collecting patient and colleague feedback.
How do patient surveys work?
You create a patient survey in your account and share it with patients. Their responses are collected confidentially and gathered into a report you can use as feedback evidence.
What is MSF or 360° feedback?
Multi-source feedback gathers structured, confidential comments from colleagues. Once enough responses are in, Nurse Tools produces a report you can reflect on and include in your feedback evidence.
